oh, i was more joking around - the oil has to go somewhere after use, and lots of people (which i would not suspect on this board) don't dispose of it properly. if the oil leaks into water it can do a lot of environmental damage. that's all
also, something to add to camille's comment - teflon is the dupont trade name for PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), so generally those two are the same... the degradation products formed at higher temperatures from the polymer are what is toxic to the fids. so you should receive the same information independent of asking about teflon or PTFE (the only problem you might run into is that people generally are more familar with the name teflon).
