My bigger concern is that your friend really realizes what she is getting into and the kind of HUGE committment she is making by deciding to breed parrots, especially the species you have listed. I hope she has LOTS of experience in advanced parrot keeping!

I sure wish she would go to the nearest bird shelter and take a gander at all the poor birds already needing homes. I'm not against breeders, I got Ollie from one, but IMO, there are enough of them.

hold on 1st off there is no bird shelters here second there isnt enough breeders at the minute there is very few in ireland infact her greys are being imported from the uk...to be honest this thread was not about bashing my friend who has taken in rescues for years and had parrots in her home since she was a young girl... as for there are enough breeders out there...do you not think taht there should be more quality breeders rather than alot of 1/2hearted money grabber??
im surprised you cannot be more supportive...as you said you got ollie form a breeder not a shelter why was that?? because you were looking for a quality baby bird... i cant believe ye would put this woman down for her dission when you have not even met her...just because you dont want anymore breeders...without breeders you would not have your birds..and without more breeders who care we would end up with more birds that are abused and scarred...at lest this woman has waited until she can provide a good home for these birds and their babies...

I am not familiar with Irish avian rescues--they may or may not exist. But if your friend was taking in rescues for years, as you said, then there certainly must not be a need for more bred if those already in existence are being given up.

As said in the above post and quoted, i agree.
There are far to many birds out there as is and Honestly i would rather see every single bird we all own live happily in the wild then with us any day but all we can do for now is find them loving hopes and try NOT supporting people who seem to breed their birds just because they can. Its disgusting in my view. |

i said my friend was taking in rescues yes but she is south african but nationality not irish...she only moved here about 7yrs ago....and i am famliar with irish avian rescues and i know that there are none in the area maybe round dublin yes but certainly not here..i know this because if there is an I.S.P.C.A case involving birds i normally get a phone call to foster them until such time as a home can be found! may i add there hasnt been many maybe one or two
