Macaw

I meet the sweetest Mcaw today. Made my day. Now I want one so bad. He/She was only 3 months old and just wanted to cuddle me. :(

Hubby has banned me from bird stores for exactly this reason!

Me too. I've yet to meet a baby anything I didn't fall in love with.

Outlaw.... same here. I fell in love with a baby lemon toucan last time. Hubby had to pry me from the store. I of course realize I may know a lot about birds but I know NOTHING about toucans..... so I wouldn't REALLY bring it home. (not until I did my research that is ;-} )

I've lost a my cat and my dog in the past year, and I miss them horribly. I've also been banned from Petco (when they are doing adoptions) and from the shelter that's only a few miles from my house! Hubby allergic to cats, so getting another is now out of the question (we just got married in April, so C.C. was to be my last cat, I just didn't expect to loose her so soon :-{ ) As for a dog... we would both love to have one, but have pretty much decided to wait a few years.... ideally until we have a child that would be old enough to enjoy a puppy. (we don't have any kids yet, but plan on having them in a couple years)

Toucans are definitely charming little things but they don't make especially good pets. For one thing, the require huge cages, horizontal, because rather than fly, they hop from perch to perch. Also, much like lories, they have very watery poops and have a dreadful habit of grabbing cage bars and pooping outside of their cages. My friend has a Swainson's that is now paired with a mate and hopefully it will be happily producing babies one day soom. These are the kinds of birds that do well in huge glass rooms with lots of tropical folliage. They are primarily fruit eaters, but have been known to kill even macaws. Still, they sure are eye candy.

yeah Outlaw.... I had the heated aviary plans all laid out in my head to bring this lil guy home.... I oviously came to my senses because the store still has the bird a year later.

I've been good. Tiki is the only bird that was bought specifically for me since the time I was very little... all of the other birds I have ever had have been "rescues" of sorts.... including Niki. I'll tell you though, if there weren't other, saner people around me, half my house would be taken over... even by rescue birds judging by the two or three I have to turn down every year ( I do always help find a home though).

If I were to buy another it would be a Blue throated, a military, a hyacinth, a TAG or an eclectus. I figure I'll wait until Hubby gets the bird bug completely and decides he wants a grey ;-}
