Yaaaaay!

So we just put in our foster/adoption papers for Mickaboo! I'm so happy!

We have a class to attend on the 17th in Sunnyvale and then we'll get started on the fostering and adoption processes for birds. I'm very excited! We even have a chance at fostering or adopting one of the SF Cherry Heads that got ill and is now tame. If any of you are in the SF Bay Area, do a search for Mickaboo.

Oh and hopefully I dont get a pigeon to foster lol, I just... Havent liked pigeons since a whole flock pooped in my hair at the bird shop once. Ewwww. Oh and when they pecked all their eggs to hell. Yeah.

hi Liz! good luck with the mickaboo screening process. im sure you will get through just fine! i am a mickaboo volunteer. its really a great group of people. What types of birds have you signed up to foster?

i am currently fostering 2 budgies from the sf animal control. someone will have to take over for me in 2 weeks tho, since i am going to visit family during the holidays.

im sure we will be seeing eachother one of these days during mickaboo activities. :)

That's awesome Kate. We signed up for basically everything but we REALLY want a blue fronted Amazon, actually we're looking into adopting Bailey. My husband grew up with Huck a blue front, who we visit twice a year and ADORE. So we really want one. Otherwise we'd be happy fostering any bird, most likely we'll adopt them all lol

I love Pico, one of the Cherry head flock members!!! I know if I could, I'd adopt him!!! I don't care if he's a hyrbid, or even inbred at that, I just love his colors!!!

Hope all goes well with the screening and you can help out! I know they sure can use more volunteers and fosters!

good luck! :-) i wont be able to go, but there is a holiday party going on for mickaboo at fort mason. sunday, december 10th. more info on it is available on the mickaboo home page.

there is also a screening of the wild parrots of telegraph hill going on tomorrow at the oakland zoo. Mark Bittner will also be there for Q&A after the film. i unfortunately wont be able to go to that one either. it would definitely be a fun thing tho. it was posted in a berkeley newspaper, so it could get crowded there!

Probably not cause he's a "sick" bird. Some foster parents only adopt the good ones while some adopt every bird they meet. I'm guessing since he hasnt been adopted yet, then probably not. Are only Cali people allowed to adopt them or something?

No, I think anyone can adopt, as long as they qualify for the adoption process and go to one of their classes, although I don't know for sure... Main thing is, I don't think I'd qualify completely for adoption from them. Therefore, I'd rather wait until there comes a time where I feel like I'd be more likely considered as a good adopter... but as it is now, I'm at my limit!

When I took in Charlie, he was living in Berkley. Being that I don't have my own transportation I had to rely on a friend to get down there and back up (which he was more than glad to help out! Especially since he was planning on coming up anyway!). I was asked on a Sunday if I'd consider taking him in, and by the very next Wednesday I was on my way! Thought it'd be a couple weeks before I could actually get down to SF, but it happened quickly! And with how it's been getting SO cold up here, I'm glad we did it sooner rather than later!

Least bit, I had figured Paco was doing better....

Bailey though sure looks like a cutey! Good luck!
