I love the way they can say that the animals becoming agitated or hyperventilating is not transit related. hmmmmmm.

I think it's interesting that United Airlines does not allow "parrots" in the cabin.

Have any of you traveled by air with your bird? If so, what airline (for future reference)?

I haven't yet had to travel by air with any of my pets, so I can't recommend an airline.

It's worth mentioning, however, that many airlines that offer in-cabin transport for animals often restrict flights to one or two non-human passengers per flight. It's EXTREMELY important, of course, to make sure that you book your bird's (or dog, cat, etc.) cabin passage when you book your flight. I'd also ask if a passenger who has an assistance animal bumps a pet at the time of the flight.

From what I recall, back when I had ferrets, many airlines change their cabin rules regarding pets on what seems like a daily basis

Here's another interesting article on airline travel for birds: http://www.parrotchronicles.com/winter2001/travel.htm

Oh, that makes me so nerves! My little Jiminy has to brave a plane flight at the end of this month! Granted, it will only be about an hour long but I am so scared for him!

I really am tempted to just make the 8 hour drive up there to go get him, but his breeders told me that the hour flight would probably much less traumatic.

i guess that totally depends on the bird - mr. sunny (aka still nameless) was totally fine on the drive to new mexico... and that was about 7hrs long.

Really? I would be willing to make the trip but I'd really like to minimize the stress on the poor little guy - he is going to have enough major changes already! The breeders said the plane flight would be much less stressful to him in their experience but I'm very very open to your experiences and opinions here at BB!

Delta lost Baby when she was shipped to me. She had to change flights and didn't make her conection. She had to stay the night in a "pet room" in Atlanta. I thought she would surely not make it.

My neice works for Jet Blue...they use to ship animals but stopped due to all the loss.

Kate, I once drove a 12 week baby Quaker from Miami to Pensacola last year when I was in the States. She was a delightful travel companion and made the trip just fine. I think the road trip where the bird can interact with you is less stressful than going in the cargo hold if that is the only option. Good point Eliza makes about the assistance animals bumping a pet. Tis the season for folks to be travelling to see their rellies.
