New addition!

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let eveyone know about our newest addition!! This is our african grey, he came to be with us after his previous owners died. We've had him for 3 days, don't know if he's boy or girl, don't know name, as the family members I got him from didn't have any info about him, so I'd take any suggestions under consideration. We're so happy!!!!

Congrats on your new addition!

Can you get a close up of the eye, one of his wings outstretched, and one image of the undertail feathers????

Congrats!!! My CAG told us his name. He kept saying "step up Buddy!" So Buddy it is. Maybe this one will say something in a few days to give you his/her name. But Coal or Kohl is nice for a boy, Stone is another.

Congrats on your new addition!

Monica, what's this about the eye and wing outstretched? I didn't know there were ways besides looking under the tail to sex a cag. What do you look for?

Mazel Tov! That's wonderful and thanks for taking on an older bird!

He/she sure looks to have been well cared for?

There's 3 supposed ways of visual sexing... however, none of them are 100% accurate... kind of like cockatiels! (actually, much like tiels! LOL Got facial, wings, and tail indications, but they are not always clear in each sex! )

Thanks guys! I'll try to get pics for you Monica, he's not fond of his wings being messed with right now; I have looked at the underside of his tail feathers & I didn't see any silver tipped ones but it wasn't the longest of looks!(he doesn't like being on his back yet either). We took him to the vet Thursday & according to the vet, he seems to be in really good condition in spite of what he went thru. He is going to put him on some antibiotics as he saw some redness in the back of his throat & if I remember what the vet said right, the bad bacteria was 65% to the good bacteria's 45%. His white blood cell count was in the normal range, 6970, but the monocytes (sp??) were at 5% & they're only supposed to be 1-3%. He's not too worried about it but until the rest of his blood work comes back we're keeping him quarrantined from the rest of the flock. I feel bad for keeping in the computer room away from all of us, cause I know he can hear the tiels & Bud, but I know it's for everyone's own good. We go back as much as possible & spend time with him, Randy especially, since Mr Grey was a Christmas present for him (quite unexpected but very much wanted!) Much thanks to Lisa B. & Calvin's mom for all your help & hard work. We appreciate it SO very much! You guys are the best!!!

Congrats! How lucky for you both. How old is he? Poor fellow must be a little confused, loosing his past owner/friend. The 'one' photo shows him to be pretty content.

Post lots of photos of his getting settled please.

Congratulations! And a good reminder to be sure that our fids & other critters have foster parents lined up who know all their vitals (and favorite toys!) in the event that we are called away unexpectedly.
