There's some more pics of the cherry head/mitred flock! I tried taking lots of photos of them, but I had much more fun feeding them!
One of our Mickaboo volunteers sent this email out today. Check out the pictures. I'm in awe - not only that the birds are being that trusting, but that he got such amazing photos. I need to find time to get up to SF with my camera! [R] and I went to SF today to visit the wild parrots, and we were surprised at how brave they'd become. We saw them on November 12th last year, and they wouldn't come near people. But today they were eating out of our hands, landing on our heads, and generally chewing on us. At first it was because we were standing with people who were feeding them, but we quickly realize they were happy landing (and chewing) on us regardless of whether or not we had food. We had mixed feelings about how tame they'd become, but in the end decided to enjoy ourselves and join in the fun. Here's some pictures we took. Enjoy! http://sprg.ssl.berkeley.edu/~wcobur...o/wildparrots/ All the Best, [W & R] Bit dissapointed that Natalie wasn't in any of the photos, but there are some good shots! Good to see that they are doing well! Would have been nice if/when I had gone down there, that the skies would have been clearer and brighter! But least bit, enjoy the photos!

Those are some really fantastic photos. What are the conures with no red on their heads? Are they still mitreds, or something else?

Having owned a Mitred conure, they trust - but what they really trust is that their beak is big enough to convince you not to do what you thought you were going to do. I doubt the birds would allow themselves to be 'birdnapped', although I'm sure someone has tried by now.

Enjoyed the slide show - What a lot of photos!
The green ones are babies or one year olds. After reading about all the Nandays living wild - looks like this kind of interaction could help them too; gain support & public awareness. Or is this happening already? |

What beautiful pictures. Someone must have spent a lot of time coaxing them to come down to eat and now they all follow the leader.

That is really cool! Have you all read the book or watched the movie "Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill"? It talks about this flock and it's make up. It is really interesting and the man who wrote it is quite a character. The movie is available on DVD now.
