Kopi (B&G Baby) is Here!

Actually, she's been here a week now and I have been so busy preparing good things for her to eat, watching her, playing with her & cleaning up after her that the week went by before I realized it! I have a whole new respect for those of you with more than one!

Things have been going very well. She is a real sweetie :) She has taken to everyone in the family and offers her foot for all of us to pick her up (including the daughters BF...he is on Kopi restrictions though cuz she gets to his shoulder and then his back everytime...)

The only thing worrying me is making sure she is eating enough (she was 22 weeks this weekend and weaned about 4 weeks ago) Her weight is on the low side & the vet said she was a little thin. He said nothing to worry about, just watch. Her breeder said that she has been weighing within 5g of 824g for the last 3-4 weeks and to let the vet know she was on the low side of the minimum. She is tracking about 815g here and was 818g when I had her at the vet's on Monday. Just to make sure I am doing everything correctly, I have been on the phone with her breeder 3x this week and she has me giving her some warm, mushy Zupreem pellets by hand right before I put her up for the evening.

Currently she is offered warm Crazy Corn in the morning mixed with a combination of fresh veggies/fruit (bell peppers, green beans, broccoli, carrots, kale, apples, cranberries, grapes, bananas) in the evening she gets the same mix with some pellets added and an Avi-Cake. She always has a seed/pellet mix (Volkman's Super Macaw, BP Ultimate Blend & Zupreem Natural) available in her cage and on her play gym. And we offer her nuts through out the day. She plays a lot and is very busy. I am guessing it's an adjustment period, taking everything in. I just get paranoid when there doesn't appear to be anything in her crop. She picks at things through out the day and always appears to enjoy her warm mix (it's all over her beak) Perhaps I am confusing a much younger baby's crop size to a 22 week olds?

Any thoughts or advice? Maybe I should just chill?
CyndiO :)

Cyndi Cyndi Cyndi..... haven't we taught you anything???? Where are those darn pictures???

I'm so happy Kopi is home!! I know you must be thrilled. How is she liking the hanging gym. I'm really curious to see pictures of her on it!! And to hear how much she likes it. Mine hasn't come yet. Not like there's any rush, since Madison won't be home for several months.

And to your crop confusion..... yes, a younger baby's crop would be bigger than a 22 wk old. So, I wouldn't look for that super huge crop that you saw on her as a baby.

Congrats.... post pics

Congrats!! your first baby home, wow i can remember my first week when my first one came home .. i was so thrilled I dont think I came off the cloud once, it was like watching a new born baby ... 4 birds later ( lol ) , i still get just as thrilled when they come home.

Pictures, pictures , pictures.. hee hee
sounds like you have the meal thing going really well !! In the evenings I did the warmed pellets also. It seemed to hold them over till morning really well.

Congrats again, wishing you a lifetime of happiness.

I think Cydni has forgotten about us!! She's probably too busy playing with that babe BG!!!!

Come up to the surface for some air!!! I'd really like to see pics of her on the hanging gym, if you have any!!! 2 of my 3 gyms have arrived.

Hey Don~ LOL! I am busy stuffing food into this bird...worried mother and all that I did post some pictures in the Album under Macaws...was having problems figuring that all out the other night for some reason.

Regarding pix of Kopi on her gyms, now that you have yours-you can do what my kids did back BK (b4 Kopi) they took one of Kopi's pictures and cut it out, stuffed it and made it dimensional, gave it tooth pick legs and stuck it on top of one of the play gyms so I could visualize what she would look like on it...not quite but it was funny

I have been playing in Photoshop trying to learn how to make these digital pix smaller...I may have shrunk her too much in this one. We'll see.

Love your latest baby picture! Is "she" officially Madison? I have been out of the loop.
