Sun Conures picking holes in clothes
Max has a problem of picking holes in our shirts, we have to have a Max shirt on before playing with him. Is there anyway to stop them of this habbit? I don't care for holy shirts. Thanks

LOL! Suns are the only birds that need a distraction to stop them from chewing those little holes in collars & shoulder seams.
We use toys to keep Gracie's beak busy when she's getting shoulder time. I've use a bunch of small colored wood blocks strung together, but there's some serious drawbacks with that idea... most obvious is the debris the chewing causes. You end up with sawdust & splinters all over ya. ((Not to mention the occasional concussion &/or black eye from them whippin the end of toy around while they fight with it! )This is one of her favourites. It's another one I slapped together. I used a length of purple cotton lace, 2 "legs" she chewed off one of her "lotsalegs" toys and a couple of smaller "crazy chains". I just tuck the purple laces under the edge of my shirt collar and leave one chain and one white rope hanging down my chest and the other two hanging down my back. She alternates back & forth- chewing on the chain or undoing the knots in the ropes.

One thing i've noticed is that they can do more damage to knit T-shirt like material than they can to a tighter woven fabric. My birds have yet to damage any of my work shirts, but T shirts don't stand a chance...

All birds do this and the easiest solution is to throw on a crappy tee you don't care about or a thick sweatshirt (that you don't care about).
Some can be distracted by toys but others will chew your shirt no matter what. |

we have the same issue with bella and valo - however, bella is much more destructive. zippers, knitted sweaters, t-shirts, pants, belts... you name it, she goes after everything. we have "birdie-outfits" that we change into when we get home

I get the picture, He's gonna chew up our clothes and buttons no mater what. I have tried the toys and that distracts him for a few minutes and then he is right back to our clothes. I just wasnt sure if you could actually teach them not to. I guess it is max shirts because I bought a thing to go around my neck with toys on it and he undoes the velcro and takes it off. Thanks for all your replys.

My cherryhead chews the shoulders on my shirts. I bought a birdy bib, which I wear around my neck and shoulders, and she beats that up instead!! It attaches with velcro. It also hides any skin tags, or acne or such, that your bird might try to remove for you!!!!! LOL
