do birds fart??

sometimes shadow makes a noise--its kinda like a puff of air, and it sounds somewhat like a fart, although it seems like its coming from his mouth..but its hard to tell..

is he farting? do birds fart?

i realize this is kinda a gross question, but i am really wondering....

it's an attempt of vocalization that results in a sound that's not too far off from a gas-release valo does the same thing.
wrt farting - i've come across farting dogs and cats, but my birds usually stay away from excess gas production

From what I understand, birds can not only fart, but can think that their farts (or your farts) are endlessly amusing and then mimick them for all eternity!

I didn't know you could be a "closed" farter. Does this mean everything is the old "silent but deadly" type? Personally, I'd rather hear it and be warned rather than be gassed by sneak attack! And I've never heard a bird fart. The old wives tale is that they can't burp or fart, but I don't think that is the truth because nearly every organism with a digestive system gets gas from time to time, including reptiles and fish.

Yes, we have farters here. It is however just an embarrasing mimic and not the actual action of farting. Tho, Emma does do "fake poopies" meaning that if she wants to follow George into the bedroom for her snuggle time, she has to "do poops"so she doesnt go in our bed
She will make a squat motion to show she is going and actully make a noise like she is pushing. She is a drama queen after all!

and remember, most of my guys are rehomes so they didnt learn farting here

Big bird is an excellent fart mimic...he has to have learned it from another family member

He will also do the squat and push when asked to poopie (if he doesn't really have to go).So far the 2 macaws have not picked up on this less than desirable mimic!!
