late last night
or early in the am, whichever you prefer, I finally crawled into bed at 2:30 am. I was laying there with tons of stuff running through my mind...and around 3, I hear this crunching noise. I get up to investigate.
backround note: I am terrified of mice. so me thinking there is a mouse in the house I get up to look. Lukily in this house we have never had a mouse. Living in the country up in north jersey, it was almost a nightly thing. But being that scared, ya dont forget about the ones ya used to have....anyway....back to the story... I hear crunch crunch crunch....I'm thinking ok..i'm gunna have to catch it... (or I will never sleep) looking around, I follow the crunching, and it coming from Sydney's cage...I look under his cover, and the boy is having a 3am feast! Harrisons btw is very crunchy at night. So Confident there is no mouse I go back to bed. I start to drift off at around 3;30 ish when I hear BANG. I immediately jump up and run into the bird room. Seems mr hungry musta been sleep eating because when he went to climb back up to roost, he missed his boing and fell off the perch So now...there I am at 3:45 with Sydney in hand, checkin him all over to make sure he is not hurt in any way.....I gave him a kiss to make everything all better and once I put him back in his cage, you shoulda seen the dirty looks I got! Ya woulda thought I body slammed him on the cage floor instead of him falling! I think thats when he finally woke up and said ..what the heck? Lukily, he only got a small owie on his forhead.

LOL "sleep eating". I have read, I think it was Bobbi Brinker, that Greys are night owls. I've also noticed they cant "find their way" around their own cage in dim light or dark. Like they were never in there before? My birds sleep in a dark room with just some moonlight shining through the mini blinds but if they get startled I can find them having slept all night clinging to the cage bars...and they have that same blank stare like disoriented if I try and help them out...

i hear you wrt to the mice... i'm afraid of spiders - sort of... as long as they keep to themselves i don't care... but my apartment is MY living space. so they have to stay out....
hehehehe - sleep eating... too funny seems like all species have that - i have one too... it's called BF - he sometimes jumps up in the middle of the night and tears the entire bed apart [with me in it!] because he's dreaming we forgot to put the bird back in the cage and might sqeeze him gotta love those 2-3am activities, especially since somebody has to put the bed back together ![]()
