Question Questions on having conures in same cage

Hey all, Im new to these boards. I own 1 bird, a green cheek conure named lola, i purchased her this early this summer, she has quite the personality for such a small bird!
I was wondering, if i were to get another bird, would i be best off gettting another GC conure? could i keep these two birds together ? I do not know the real sex of lola, is this going to be an issue?
Thanks so much for helpin!

Well, it depends on the birds... most GC's like to hang with other pyrrhuras, but if you got a conure of another species (besides pyrrhura) then you'd have to watch them carefully... but generally speaking, pyrrhuras like to play with eachother.

If you did get a second bird, it would be best if you quarantined the second one away from the first to ensure that it's healthy before introducing it to Lola. And so whether or not they want to live together will be up to them.

The only reason it would not be a good idea to house them together (besides possibly not liking eachother-let them choose as to whether or not they want to live together!) is if they were of the opposite sex, and you didn't know it... which could cause unnecessary breeding.

one year after we bought our first green cheek, we got another green cheek. they hit it off really well from the beginning, but we kept them in their own cages. only about a little less than a year after we got our second green cheek that we decided to house them together in the same cage. it went smoothly.

i would let them get to know each other for a while outside of the cage before deciding whether they are compatibile with each other enough to live in the same cage with each other. take your time.

It would depend on the cage aswell, If you were to get a new one and put it in your old ones cage you might have territorial issues. And if they dont get along what would you do? Sometimes you loose your once tame and friendly bird when you get it a friend, is that something you really want? You just Got Lola and Youre thinking of bringing in another bird allready... Why is that?

also another thing to worry about is if your bird bonds to the other bird they can get very protective of each other and not as friendly!!

I wouldnt cage them together, I have heard of GCC killing other CG's in breeding season. They typically dont love other birds esp if not brought up together, I would if i had to cage them together, start with 2 diff cages beside eachother and supervised play times outside the cages, then let them out to explore each others cages crawling ontop and in, then have them spend time in the cage with eachother (door open) then closed for short amounts of time...eventually extend the time in together if all goes well.
