You might try running a search with Red Bird Products as they assign traceable breeder codes as well as L and M. National Band and tag is also another company....where L an M and Red Bird get their bands before they engrave them. Did you ask the person you purchased the ekkie from about the previous owner. They might be able to tell you without you having to search. We band all our birds SWA (Singing Wings Aviary)-AR (Arkansas)- 04 (Year) - # (birds ID number). Some of the finch bands do not have room for the state abreviations but all the parrot bands do.

Thanks for all the help folks. I have been putting to use the helpful suggestions from ya'll.

I think the band breeder info is GSRC not G5BC like I initially thought. This stands for Gulf South Bird Club. It looks like they are located in the New Orleans, LA area. This would fit the LA on the band.

My wife found the possible breeder in the classified ads in the back of BirdTalk mag. We contacted her and she said she did hatch a Red Sided Eclectus in 2001. Our Ekkie band has a '91 on it I'm pretty sure but the 2001 hatch date would fit what we were told when we bought Shadow. But ours was sold as a Vosmaeri.

I've done research on the different sub-species of Ekkies and to me the difference between them is very subtle. Does anyone here have a sure fire easy way to tell?

I've attached a pic of Shadow. This is from the show in Memphis where we bought him. His feathers are still recovering from the failed attempt to use him as a breeder. We were told this led to his plucking. He is recovering nicely now.
