raw tongue

Last night I noticed a little blood on Sydney's beak. I am able to examine him rather well since he is so used to me being hands on. I found that he seems to have rubbed his tongue raw on the end, and it was bleeding. How he did this, I'm not sure. He did not do it when he fell the other night, because there was no blood that night or in the morning. There has not been any blood since I wiped it off.
it seems a bit tender, tho , he is eating and singing.
Greys have black tongues. At the very tip, you can see pink, where he rubbed it raw. The rest of the tounge looks fine. I compaired it to Emma's.
(tho she was not happy )
So I guess my question is, do ya think it can get infected? If so, what am i lookin for? I am gathering it would be like if a human bit thier tongue. It heals on its own. Not 100% sure a vet visit is in need.......just wanted to throw it out there to see if others have experienced this....

Poor Sydney, he's had a rough time of it lately. Lisa are you sure he didn't bite it when he fell? Maybe there was a little split in it and he is just now aggravating it with his beak.

If it were me I probably would put in a call to the AV. Please let us know how he's doing. I'm sending positive healing thoughts for the little guy.

so far since I got home from work, he is quiet.
there is no more bleeding. He killed a few of his new wooden toys, so he was chewin away today...
As usual, its probably bothering ME more then it is him, but we will see how he acts tonight when I spend time with him, which............................
I am off to do!

Lisa:

Perhaps he had a splinter you couldn't see. Maybe he's worked it free.

ya know, I did think of that. I cant imagine what else he would have done that for. ...Maybe he was chewing on the wooden toys ON his boing, got a splinter, which made his fall off the boing to begin with.
He seems to be doing ok. I am able to hold open his beak and look at his tongue pretty close up. It seems to have healed somewhat, as its no longer pink, but brownish now.

No more blood and it has not effected his appetite.
He even tried to go after Stirling tonight, so I know he is feeling ok
