Is your parrot left-footed?

Did anyone watch "Nature" on PBS last night? It was about parrots in Australia.
I had no idea there were soo many different types of cockatoos. And was amazed by the flock size, especially for budgies.

One interesting thing they mentioned - most Australian parrots are left-footed, meaning that they perch with their right foot and manipulate food/objects with their left. I was wondering if that holds true in captive bred birds as well as the non-Australian birds.

I watched that show too. It was interesting. I only have 1 tiel that uses his foot and he is left footed. He only uses his foot to eat pieces of bread or toast but he always holds it in his left foot.

that was a great show!! my conure is a lefty, and he's from south america. my GW is a lefty too, also from south america. my lovebirds are from africa and dont eat with their feet yet, nor does my pacific parrotlet. maybe birds are more likly left footed, where humans are more likly to be right footed.

Well he had to be different.... Echo is right footed... I wonder if it's because he is a TAG or just different..

Our CAG is definitely left footed. Eats with the left foot and steps up with the left foot. We always thought it was because the band is on her right ankle.
