New Member of my bird family!!!
Just got a new budgie his name is Kloud he is pure white and is my first boy. He is a little paranoid because I just got him but, he's gotten better over time. I have another budgie and it is a girl and I have them in separate cages because I am not sure if they will fight. And does anyone have bird nest recommendations? Thanks!!! :) :)

Scott, I agree with Heather, please do not allow them together unless you are FULLY prepared for breeding. Learn all ya can first, I recommend purchasing the following book if ya ever intend to allow breeding: Handfeeding & Nursery Managemnt..... ya can order from www.avianpublications.com ..............really worth the investment....... :)

I'll try to buy the book and I'll search the net for tips because I've heard stories of someone who bred and didn't know what to do and all the baby birds died (makes me want to cry

Your most likely not ready to breed to begin with as your new bird is most likely still a baby??? If that's so then depending on how young it is you may not know the sex of it, however if its 5+ months old then it may most likely be a male after all, if it has a pink cere... If there is ANY white and or blue on the cere then it is a female...
You should first have both birds be atleast around a year old before breeding, and still do all the reading that you can on breeding and raising before letting them pair up if you do so happen to have a male and female...

as for keeping them seprate cages or together that wpu;ld depend on what you want. if you want them to be friendly to you keep them apart because if you put together they will have their flock and ignore you. if you dont care about that you can put them together and they should be ok oh they might scrable a little to determine dominance but that all in any case congradulations on your birds important to remember with parakeets keep cage away from windows or any other part of the house where there a draft. they cant tolerate drafts without getting sick |

Michele, actually, I have yet to see an adult female budgie with a pink cere, and have it proven... I've seen photos of a pure white budgie that was female, and she retained the crusty brown cere. I once owned a pure white budgie, although he didn't last long, I'm sure that from his chattering, and tail, that he was most likely a male...
This is a photo of a female budgie.... as you can see her cere is white, not pink... you might be able to see a tint of blue on her cere, but otherwise, I know that this is a female... the male would have a pink cere in this case... ![]() The following photos are of some adult ino females... ![]() ![]() Here is a photo of a male lutino... as you notice in this photo, the cere is pink... The site even said underneath the photo that it was a male bird ![]() After speaking to a so called pet psychic, this is one arguement that I'll argue.. just to let you know Yes, it is blue ceres for boys, in most cases, but in some of the pieds and inos, males may have pink ceres... Females will ALWAYS (as to my knowledge unless proven otherwise) have a white (sometimes tinted with blue and/or beige), beige, reddish, or crusty brown (as the two ino females above/middle) cere as adults. Now if all males had blue and all females pink, then there would be a lot of gender confusion! I myself love the color blue, and is the main color that I wear... (though I really can't say much for the guys at my school who wear pink outfits sometimes...) besides, I have yet to see a pink budgie! Though I have seen pink parakeets... but that's another story... lol
