histoplasmosis prevention
What's the best known method for prevention of histoplasmosis or bird-fancier's disease?? I know there are probably a million hits on Google about it, but I wanted to go direct to the bird's beak with this and ask the pros.
Thanks! Mark |

Most importantly, maintain clean cages, vacuum daily, shower birds often and keep the dishes spotless. Remove poop before it dries and goes airborne.
Never keep birds where you sleep and when cleaning cages, its best to were a mask and spray papers BEFORE you pick them up. Disinfect often and rotate your disinfectants. Wash your hands often, shampoo and shower daily and run good air cleaners. Also be sure to change furnace filters monthly when the house is totally closed up and no windows open. Understand that some birds are "dirtier" than others. Some are dustier and some are simply messier. Never just assume you have the flu. It could be more. Always be sure to quarantine for no less than 45 days ANY new bird, regardless of where it came from.
