Red Rumped Parakeet?

They have one of these at the store and I can't find a good site for information like temperament and as pets. I can find loads on how they are in the wild but that doesn't help me. I saw that someone here had a few, can you let me know how they are as pets? Temperament? Playfulness? I've been searching for a new bird that is not toooo expensive.

I found this http://members.aol.com/gouldianguy/g...y/graskeet.htm a website of a person who has a red rump and describes his personality. If I ever get another bird it will be a choice between a Bourke or a Red Rump.

I have aviary red rumps with some beautiful babies at the moment. The cinamon cross/mutation (?) in one of my hens has produced two beautiful chicks! Contemplating bringing one in to train up. But I have never known anyone in Australia who has a tame one. They are not popular anymore here. So would be interested in your views if you do know a tame one.

I have some Bourkes Parrots in there too and they are so gentle! They wouldnt require much training. They arent all that active either. My four seem to be day dreaming most of the time!! The Red Rumps are a little crazier! Aggressive with each other and QUICK! Make sure all of your doors are shut! Have to catch 3 of the little ones this afternoon because they are going to their new homes! Not looking forward to catching the little buggers!

There are a few members here who have posted some info about red-rumps in the Australian Grass Keets forum: http://www.birdboard.com/forum/australian-grass-parrots/. Here is another website that you might enjoy: www.grassparakeet.com.

An on-line aquaintance of mine has a red-rumped p-keet. I believe she rec'd the bird through a rescue org. I recall her sharing photos of the lovely bird (some sort of lutino mutation, maybe?) eating fresh veggies and such. I think that w/ a lot of patience and hand's-on interaction a red-rump could make for a nice companion.

That said, I'm really rather fond of the Bourke's. I've been contemplating lineolated p-keets (also mentioned in the link MaggieL provided - thank you for that, BTW!) for a while now but lately, I keep coming back to the Bourke's.

Best of luck,

-e-
