New Food = happy Bird

Went to the market today and bought (for the bird) oranges, banana chips, red, orange & green peppers, broccolli flowers (tops).....he has never had these before...the fave....Oranges...LOVED THEM!!! Liked the orange pepper as well.....he has discovered a whole new world of food....LOL

Question....when you guys give your birds oranges, do you cut them up in little pieces? Take the peel off? Just give them a big wedge?

i give valo parts of an orange slice every now and then since he gets orange juice too and it makes his poop a little watery
i take the peel off completely

Just a word of caution: if you feed pellets, do not feed citrus. It interfers with vitamin uptake, I believe.

And I've always been under the impression that you shouldn't feed your birds citrus too often, like, maybe only twice a week, because it might dry out their skin.
True or False?

I'm under the impression that citrus is a total no-no...

re: The Healthy Bird Cookbook

Oranges
This is a good source of vitamin C. Frozen, undiluted concentrate can be used for cooking and contains the highest amount of potassium and vitamin C.

I think it's good to feed! Maybe sparingly, but good nevertheless! When I feed oranges (pretty rare now a days), I normally just cut a slice of orange, with peel, and gave it to Noel and Casey.... they'd eat what they wanted and leave the peel. I never really did give it to the little guys often, as most times they couldn't figure out how to eat the orange or weren't interested...
