I know there's a huge difference between Budgies & a larger bird - but the only way i could get Laker interested in fresh greens was to offer a bowl of sprouted seeds that i found at the health store.

They were in a large plastic container - the sprouts were packed in with potting medium [not soil] & the sprouts were about 2" tall. They offer Sunflower/Beet/Peas in these containers. We humans would use them clipped off, in salads or a garnish. Laker likes to munch on them - they're very sweet. I had tried clipping the trimmed sprouts to the cage or hanging them like a toy but they got ignored that way. I also dug out a bunch & put them in a bird bowl - had to water more often tho & mist. The nice thing is you can 'forage' along-side your fid - birds like to do what their flock is doing.

Others have helped me figure out what my fid would like - by trial & error - & they didn't have a Budgie. When i started recall training i also reduced the availability of his favourite foods first thing in the morning when he's his hungriest. You might try pulling his favourite food & offering them as a treat or reward. I think the confusion & hunger together made him more receptive towards the new foods. I am not saying starve her or deny her favourite foods - just mess with her mind a little .

The sprouts were beside his cage where he hangs out most of the time - i was over there misting & playing with them a lot. He became curious.

If you really want this for her she'll figure it out eventually - how are you with snacking on raw carrot or celery?

I think I will order some of Ginich's birdie bread once my homemade stock runs out. I use a Jiffy Corn muffin mix, with an egg + shell, and bake veggies into it. Then I freeze muffins and take out as needed.

I have been doing the same thing...Jiffy mix, veggie stock (organic) instead of milk, and lots of veggies. Sometimes I add some nuts, beans and even fruit. I bake it in a big cake pan, cut it into serving size pieces and freeze it.

That said, I am going to order some of Ginni's too and see how they like it!

Look at it this way, Missy: She eats her fruit really well and many of the same nutrients contained in veggies are contained in fruit. Fruit just has more sugar and sometimes that's not such a good thing. Just keep working with the veggies in different sizes, shapes etc. I found that Buster would eat a lot of things if they were cut to about the same size as her seed mix. She loves anything we serve with her sprouted seed in the morning feeding. Also, try working with feeding her from your hands. Kent offered Buster a lot of things from his hand as treats and we got her to eat a lot of different things with that technique. It worked really well with veggies, greens, breads but oddly enough, never worked with pellets. To this day, she will have nothing to do with pellets of any type but eats almost anything else. Go figure!

Wow...it really couldn't be more simple! I think I can find time to make that! Now let's see what's cheaper....Ginich's or Jiffy's!!

Yes, it's very quick and easy. Only takes a few minutes to mix up the batter + egg and I put frozen veggies into the mix.

this is the mix that I feed Sophie and Zoey and they love it.

its the only fruit that they get outside of an occasional slice of something. Their veggies are in a mash and Sophie loves it!
