pulled feather

I got my conure a Peacock feather that's on a toy hook (I got it at the local bird store...it's clean and all, made specifically for this). I was told that that would keep him from messing with his own feathers by using the energy to preen those feathers...maybe you could try something like that?
When my birds are in a molt, I don't take the feathers away, as I figure if they're playing with those, their not messing too much with the other "itchy feathers" that aren't ready to come out just yet. Only in a molt though!

If it is any help all 4 of my quakers and my Gray are molting right now too, none of them are pluckers just a feather here and there, now and than.
