Macaw Dust Links

Thought this would be good for new and old owners alike... for threads that talk about the dust factor and macaws, as well as housing dusty birds and macaws together... Enjoy!

Question: How will I know if my macaw is getting sick or allergic? However, there have been a few posts where people have said they keep their grey and macaw together. Is this possible? I do have another place where the grey could stay (just so everyone doesn't get confused, I am probably getting a CAG this weekend or next) in a room a couple doors apart, but it would be nice if she could stay in the same room or the room next to the bird room. If this is possible, please give me the full details of the percautions I need to take.
I already have a humidifier (havn't used it in a while, but it works) and a HEPA equipped vacume. I know I will need a air filter (your favorite or suggested filter brand and price) with HEPA. Is there anything else?

Thanks,
Dominique

You do have a blue and gold macaw.... which are most effected.... I don't know all the symptoms other than they get runny nose/sneezing... better to not chance it and keep them together in same room/air space....

More shall come along for help I'm sure.

Monica, thank you very much for the links, since I have macaws also, I would like to look more into this, do you have any links that provide the scientific data to this.

P.S. just a little personal note, the only time that your macaw will start to show symptoms of this is only after they are infected and it is too late (though medical treatment can be done, but most macaws do die). The best thing to do is an annual testing on your macaw.
