What is that?! A child?? Fly! Run!

Tonight was Jasmine's first experience with a kid. One of my roommate's brought her little niece over. She brought her in to "see the birdie". I stepped Jasmine up and brought her to eye level with the little girl. The girl started giggling and squeeing and yelling "BIRDIE" and Jazzy flipped!! She "flew" as far as she could then ran the rest. *What the heck happened to the "Ekkie Freeze"?!* The girl chased her but I got to Jazzy before she could. Jazzy's just like Mommy, doesn't care for children Don't get me wrong, they're fine as long as they're not mine and they're respectful and silent

I do have to admit, the kid was pretty funny. She pointed to the Buddha statue in my Goldfish tank and yelled, "It's Daddy! It's Daddy!"

Like 'em just fine as long as they're somebody elses and they go home after a couple of hours! Birds, cats, selected dogs and orchids can stay as long as they like. And NOBODY gets close to Buster without Kent and I being right there.

my ekkie Scarlett HATES children. She will scream her head off if she can see one and she is NOT a screamer. I think the children in her first home used to poke her or otherwise torment her.

One of the stipulations of adopting her was that she go to a home with no children. Not a problem here!

Our princess is the opposite. I don't usually take any of the birds out when my friends kid comes over, because I'm afraid he'll leave a door open. However, the kid will stand in front of Zoe's cage and they will say "hello" to each other for HOURS! She loves talking to that kid! When she talks to me, she turns around so her back is facing me to make I know I'm not worthy of her words.

Gypsy loves kids. When I first got her her my nephew stayed the night (he was almost 4 at the time) and the love affair began. There were actually times when I had to call him into the room so she'd behave! But he learned from day 1 that he had to be quiet and move very slowly around her...that's hard to teach someone else's niece/nephew though.

She won't step up for my mom or sister, but paces back and forth when she sees her MYYYYYCOOOOL waiting for him to pick her up. I think it's cause he played peek-a-boo with her.

Last March, when my granddaughter was only 3 months old, I put her on the table on the porch and moved the birds' cages close to her. She was facinated and they were too. They came to the front of the cage and looked at her too. They told her she was a "Pretty bird" several times and whistled. BTW, her name in Hebrew, Malka Tzipporah, means "Queen Bird" because she chirped the first couple of months before she met the birds. When she came back to visit at 9 months, she was even more facinated with them (and their toys). They had a lot of common interests. She sat in her stroller watching them for a long time and they spread their wings for her and were listening to her intently also. It was very cute. I can't wait until next time.. Eve will be back in March-her mother is running the Sarasota Marathon-we'll be waiting for her at the finish line.....
