Mirrors, good or bad to have in cage?

Hello to all, I am not really clear if it is good or bad to hang a mirror in our fid's cage. I have a 9 month old sun and a 7 month old lilac crowned amazon in sep. cages of course. Is it a good idea or bad idea to hang a mirror in the cage and if a bad idea why? Thanks

What ever you want. If the bird starts getting obsessed and protective then take it out but if it just goes over for a talk and isnt bothering you or becoming aggressive then it should be fine.

Mirrors

Thanks for the response, I think that is what I heard was something about aggressivness. I just put one in Gilligan's cage, our newly adopted Amazon and I noticed he likes it. I will watch for unusual behavior.

Max, our Sun doesnt have one at the moment.. I am afread he might start his screetching into the mirror and I wouldnt want that. At the moment he is only a scretching greeter and is playing somewhat quietly most other times.

there is the possibility that they bond to the mirror image - as courtzrocks said, it can lead to aggression.... that's why most people would probably recommend against it. (our tiel back home had a mirror all his life - that's all he's interested in)

Thanks for the responses.. We just got gilligan and I don't want him to bond with a mirror instead of us. I thought I heard something negitave about a mirror, but I also thought I heard something about if the bird talks that they might talk to the mirror??? I am not knowing, that is why I am asking.

I think I will take the mirror out for starters.

It seems like forever forsure.

I AGREE it does seem like forever, gotta be driving you nuts. I know its driving me nuts waiting for the update from home. I know nothing about Myspace, ask my kids and I am sure they do, but not me. I will just have to wait.... Well anyway, cant wait to see the new pic's, and for your baby to be "home" to hear all the updates.

Talk to you soon!
