Feb's BirdTalk Poster

Picked up the Feb issue of BirdTalk & was surprised to see the choices for the centerfold poster.
I hadn't seen many good shots of either of the Amazons they chose.

The Mealy looks vaguely like a BFA, but with the blue contrast skewed darker. Nice lookin bird though.

Those Cuban Zons are beautiful with that streak of gorgeous fiery red at their throat!!
The plumage looks like a melding of a Zon, a WCP, and an oversized MBC.

Interesting article on the Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation Center & the shots of the Spix were really unexpected too.

and the pics on the last page...I didn't know there was a Bird lover's version of Monopoly out there!
Wonder where one would find that.....

I'm still contemplating subscribing to Birds USA, but i've never actually read it.

As for the Febuary issue, I saw Birdopoly too and was showing it to my family. I wonder what types of things would be on the different spaces...

Maybe a Hyacinth Macaw or Black Palm Cockatoo are "Boardwalk"

Birds USA is an annual magazine. Bird Talk is monthly. I really like Birds USA siince it has a lot of good stuff in it, particularly at the end, like avian vets throughout the US, Bird Clubs, etc.

Jim, I met Ryan Watson last July, he was at the Parrots 2006 conference in Brisbane. I interviewed him but have been unable to upload on BB becasue of the size. It's on Zippy videos. He gave the most heartbreaking presentation on a Spix macaw that died of PDD, I was crying to see this beautiful bird slowly dying. The link is here but be warned it is very upsetting. It does make you realize how deavtating PDD is.

Pictures in Bird Talk

It's unfortunate that Bird Talk used a picture of some formula encrusted baby cockatiels on page 2 and again on page 32. Hopefully people won't get the idea that this is ok to have babies look like this. One bird also appears to have an odd leg.
In general though they do present some fine pictures.
