Read about your animals...

Just wanted to encourage people to read and study about these awesome animals. I am reading "guide to a well behaved parrot". one tip in particular was helpful today.
Cecil was in a bad mood, apparantly, and I tried to get him to step up. HE BIT ME. I mean lit into my wrist and clamped on for dear life, shaking and flapping. mad bird.
Quickly remembering what I had read, I pushed my wrist TOWARD him and threw him back a little and allowed me to get outta his mouth. With the hook of the bill pointed the way it is, if you instinctivly jerk toward you, it'll rip your skin and tissure more and possibly hurt the bird.
I didn't scream like a little girl like I thought I would and didn't scold him. I did get him to step up on a stick and put him in his cage as we were leaving. and he got a treat for doing that.
Not entirely sure what that was all about, but ouch. it hurt and left a bruise and a little bleeding. Them big ole Amazons can put a punch in a bite.
Not elicing sympathy, just encouraging people to read about these fantastic animals we are caring for. There is much to learn.
This forum is full of helpful and knowledgeable people and personally I thank you for that.
We are all in this together, maybe somewhat differently together, but together in our love for these gifts in our life.
Mark

Yeap, that's the first rule I ever learned about birds. Always push;don't pull.

Yikes. Thanks Mark. I actually didn't know that. Everytime that I've been bit it's been more like a snake strike. Just a real quick 'get the hell away from me' zinger. I have yet to have anyone hang on to me. Knock on wood. Now I know what to do when they do. Glad to hear that you didn't scream like a little girl though. Not that that would have blown my image of you...I mean, you DO like to watch Lilo and Stitch and all...

OHHHHH, let's set something straight...
I watched Lilo and Stitch ONE time. The rest is the 24-7 repeats that my kids usually crank up. Although, they've outgrown that some.
Geez, tell people you watch Lilo and Stitch ONE time and they never forget it. LOL.

Cecil the biter LOVES Lilo and Stitch. Maybe I need to let him watch 101 Dalmatians or something less "chewy". haha

LMFAO yep, there's your problem, parrots are great learners and letting them watch Lilo and Stitch is a BIG mistake LMAO he learned way to many tricks from stitch hehehe

That was my FIRST parrot behavior book that I purchased and I loved it! I swear I'm a parrot behavior book addict, when ever I see a new one I have to buy it (usually on eBay where books are CHEAP) I guess I could be addicted to worse things! Thank the Lord I'm not.

L&S is actually pretty inventive,
and AFAIC, ain't nothing wrong with watching cartoons.........

Oooops, one exception.......
when the viewers are pickin up the worst habits of the characters from the shows.
