Slept in today (hey I don't have to work-yippee :eusa_clap !!)...I'm the mod who lives in Brisbane.

I take my birds to Adrian Gallagher at Brighton Vet Surgery phone 3269 2223. It's up in the Sandgate area so straight up the Gateway for you.

He is very well qualified and I have been going there for 4 years now and am very happy with him so I am pleased to recommend him. I think one of his newer associates was an avian vet at Currumbin Bird Sanctuary, can't remember her name off hand but she is good too.

Yeah, I'm in the northern suburbs in the Chermside area so he is only 15 min away for me. Only other avian vet I know of is Ron Woodhead in Ashgrove but you would have to cross town and all the traffic to get there. Maybe if you ring Currumbin and see if they can recommend someone closer?

:aiwebs_01 Hey Tiki... are the "First check" & "Well Bird" check ups basically the same here as they are in USA (ie. blood test, fecal stains etc)?... and on average how much do you pay for a vet check for your guys (so I know how much money to have ready for the bill).... hehehehehe
I've found an avian vet listed in Wishart which is only about 15-20 mins away, so when I ring them to check on costs & procedures I'd like to have a guide as to what's "normal" for comparison....

I have taken my birds to Wishart Road Veterinary Surgery before and been quite happy with them. It's still a bit of a drive but not as far as Sandgate. I'm just at Waterford, so not far from you and I have not found anyone closer that I would trust enough. The address is 224 Wishart Road, Wishart. Phone: 3343 6399. Emergency after hours: 3347 3333.

Sorry it took so long to reply, Ive been away for a couple of days. Not sure about checkup costs. The last bird I had there was an eggbound budgie. It cost arund $60 all up, that was including antiobiotics.
I have 16 budgies, 2 IRN's and 1 cockatiel.
I knw what you mean about expensive because along with the birds I have 3 dogs, a cat and 6 horses. Feeding them costs enough.
