Your Opinion of Corn Cob

Hello all! I have been using corn cob for Harley for quite some time now. I like it despite the fact that I have to clean it daily. I was wondering, what are your opinions of it as opposed to what you use.

If parrots ingest it, it can "clog them up" inside, sometimes fatally. I won't use it. I use plain newsprint (I buy ends by the roll from a newspaper) or newspapers (soy-based ink).

It can also be a site for bacteria growth. It is also nearly impossible to monitor droppings on anything but some sort of paper. I use newspaper, its completely safe and free.

Newspaper here also. I've always heard neg. responses to the use of corn cob bedding - so I just never considered it an option. Plus I like the fact the newspaper is free! (we don't subscribe to one) I have a local gas station that gives all the previous days leftovers to me when I want them, plus my grandparents save all of theirs and give me a Wal Mart bag full every month. My birds are small enough that I can put several layers of newspaper at a time, then every day I just take the top 2-3 sheets out.

Corn cob is the last thing I would use. In fact, I would never use it. It is the best way to grow mold in your cage which can then lead to aspergillosis. We won't even sell it at the store since it is so dangerous. Stick with newspaper, paper towels or Carefresh bedding.

Newspaper, Cecil came with corncob stuff, but I quit it.
It's just messy...
Much easier to clean up with a newspaper. Cleaning is near daily with paper, but it's quicker cleanup than cc. Also, newspaper fits perfectly and I pull it up on the side where Cecil eats at the top of his cage to catch the "drippings".

I used to use the Kaytee recycled (flushable, gray colored) paper bits, then I used to use the wood pellets but that got messy and expensive, so now I just use plain old newspaper as recommended by our vet. It's also the best way to monitor the bird's poopies.

I have never heard that it can cause repetory sensitivties... Wow, I am so happy I asked this. Yea, the mold thing can become a problem if you don't clean it out everyday (yes, every day) but monitoring droppings has never been a problem.
I am definatly going to switch over to news paper. I havn't used it is forever because Harley would play with it (she never bothered the CC though) But, still, I am definaly going to swich over. Thanks!

I've also heard that Corn Cob is not good. I use newspaper and/or Carefresh bedding.
