Jan. Mouth Update

Recently saw Mouth again, the OW zon...

He's still being fed the 3-D pet products, and conseqently his feathers still look like a mess.... he does appear to have some more chest feathers, and he's really been going at his one toy that he has... has removed most of the smaller blocks on the two lower lvls.

Wife said that she bought him a $7 dollar ball advertised for birds... and said that Mouth easily destroyed it! Doesn't surprise me... He does need some more toys, and have told wife about Parrot Connection.... she mentioned that her husband bought Mouth some other type of parrot food (I don't know what type) and that Mouth didn't like it. Doesn't surprise me, if they've had him for 20-24 years and that's been his main diet...

She was thinking about buying him a $60 bottle of bird spray... supposedly helps birds with mites... told her I think that Mouth probably wouldn't need it, trying to imply that it'd be a waste of money... however, she thought he needed it because of the condition of his feathers.... told her that plucking could be due to diet, boredom, or otherwise... but she assumed that she still needed this bottle of stuff...

Husband did mention that he thought the cage that I picked out for Mouth was too small (yeah, he may be right, but he shouldn't be complaining! Especially for the fact that all the stuff that Mouth received was free, but was worth well over $200... but of course I wasn't about to tell him that due to the fact that he is the greediest person in the house, and would have probably thought Mouth was more valuable than he really is [so to speak])... What he really needs is a good home... but in the meantime, I saw a cage on CL ( http://reno.craigslist.org/pet/269304068.html ) that was pretty cheap (for the size of the cage), just needed the money to buy the cage, plus gas money... The only downside, is that I can't really see the family putting much money towards Mouth if they don't really have to, being how greedy they tend to be, and how they waste money on themselves. Of course, if they don't take the cage, I do know of another little birdy who could use it!

For now, that's the update! Some people did previously say that if the family was willing to sell Mouth, that they'd get the money together for his "adoption", just to get him out of there! In a way, I do think that if a high enough price was given (i.e. cash in hand), they wouldn't take it, but then again his life was compaired to the value of a car that's been in the family for a while...

I do plan on seeing him again later today, to take over some info... not that it'd be of any use... but I can always wish... so if anything happens of it, I'll let you all know!

Just to put as an update.... last I spoke with one of the parents, they said they weren't interested in putting out the money for the cage... no matter how cheap the cage was for its size, and how easy it was to fix it up, they didn't want to put any money towards him if it meant money out of their own pocket.... such a shame really.

Monica, you must be so frustrated with the situation, I know I would be. What is it that makes people stubbornly hold on to something (pet, spouse, whatever) even when they refuse to care for them properly, and obviously don't really want them? I wonder if these two are holding out, hoping you'll come up with a wad of money for him, or if they just enjoy being perverse!

I honestly don't know... The wife takes care of her husband, but he's so self centered he wont help her out until bills are payed off, they've got one of their cars fixed up for hot august nights, and whatever else he thinks needs done... and the son being there certainly isn't helping... the family itself is a mess... especially with the mother working two jobs and not getting enough sleep.

Thus, I've been thinking about reporting them for animal neglect... they may have meant well in the beginning, but they can hardly help themselves to be able to even help Mouth.... although I will say that he's been getting a bit better care since they got some actual bird stuff...
