strange feather?

on my sun conure there is an interesting feather like thing growing out the back of his neck.it is kinda hard and thick almost like a thorn you can say?and he hates when i mess with it.i notice this feather was also on my sisters cockatiel.is this normal?

Hi there....sounds like a "pin feather" to me....which is a new feather that is still in the developmental process...in time a feather will sprout out of that hard shell.....
