Bird Talk Magazine? Any good?

Hello,

I was reading in another thread and someone mentioned the Bird Talk Magazine. I was curious and did a search, looks like something I would be interested in, but the cheapest I can seem to find it is $44 for 12 issues shipped to Canada (only $14 for the US) In your opinion, is it worth that, or does anyone know where I can get it cheaper in Canada?

Thanks!

I'm not sure where you can get it in Canada, but I definitely enjoy the photos in their magazine and the big spread they have in the middle. Some of the articles are pretty informative too.

Bird Talk is OK, but if you want a magazine that is great, you should go for Parrots Magazine - HOME PAGE

I agree... BirdTalk Magazine is the "cheapest" of ALL of them... and for the money is well worth it.

I don't know where you hunt for it... have you tried Magazines.com? I don't know what their rate to Canada is though. International shipping is what obviously killing it. For that reason, there's nothing cheaper that I can recommend as all the others will be much more than even that.

For awhile now the Canadian dollar is even valued more than the US dollar, so I'm actually shocked at the rate you've found (44)... wow. If I'm not mistaken... that's almost equal to the standard price of Parrot magazine in US dollar! Per Year! So it's most likely double that to Canada!

EDIT: Just did some research... 47.xx to canada for Parrot Magazine... maybe then that's a good route for you.

I buy Bird Talk magazine once in a while from Petco. I feel it's a lighthearted, Martha Steward-ish magazine that has some informative articles and suggestions. And, it's nice to see ads for products and to know what's going on in the community. BUT if you read good books on your particular species of parrot or bird care books in general then the articles seem too redundant and basic. I think books increase your knowledge much better that a magazine subscription ever can so I'm more of a book person. Although I will say it's a "fun" magazine and I do enjoy it.

Also, I feel that they tend to downplay or never mention any negatives of parrot ownership (in their parrot profiles, etc.) that a prospective buyer needs to know. That's, of course, understandable because their sponsors are bird product companies. Still, it think it's a bit irresponsible to say that a bird is big and cuddly without mentioning the biting, screaming, attachment to one person, etc., etc.

I'm gonna look into Parrots Magazine....thanx to whoever suggested it.

I like bird talk magazine. I don't subscribe I just pick up a copy at the pet store. Never have much luck with getting all my magazines when I subscribe. Good luck in finding you a cheaper price.
