Pita has God Parronts
I'm 52, and Pita is only 9 months, so I figured I had better start thinking about were he will go, after I am gone.....if he outlives me of course.
So I am pleased to announce that after thinking about it, I contacted Bee (Valo's Mom), and she & Hunter have agreed to take Pita, if something happens to me. I am so pleased, because he will have a wonderful home, I'm sure of it.......and then maybe he'll actually grow a tail...lol So they are now officially his God Parronts :notworthy: Which would make him thier God Fid :cute: What are your plans for your fids?

It's great that you've decided to think ahead!!!
Being that I'm only 18 now, I don't really have any plans on what-if's so to speak, if something were to happen to me... but then again, IF something did, and I couldn't care for my fids... Charlie would go back to his foster mum (assuming we are still in contact, but she may not be able to keep him, depending on her situation as well), and the rest would go to close friends (only have one who may be willing to care for them... but then again doctors said he shouldn't have lived past 12 years of age...) or maybe someone here on BB or to people in my bird club...

I have allocated funds to be set up in a trust for each of my pets at the time of my death.
These funds are to be used for the veterinary care and daily needs of each pet and, if the pet passes, the rest of the funds are redistributed to the remaining pet's trusts. This is a legal arrangement with named caretakers and alternates, who have also agreed to this, if my pets outlive me. There is not enough money involved that anyone is going to fight to get their hands on the trust. If you do not make prior arrangements for your pets and/or have a will, the pets are treated as chattel, like the furniture, and can be sold to pay the debts of the estate, if necessary. Please check with an attorney in the state where you reside.Last year, we had an animal rights/welfare attorney speak to FWCAS about the legalities of what happens to your pets if you meet either an untimely demise (get hit by a bus), become incompetent, go to a nursing home, or die with or without a will. not necessarily in a good way.

I have not set up anything yet as I am only 24 years of age. However, this is something I contemplate from time to time. If you do not know someone who is willing to take your parrot, what is the next option? It is much easier to find people to be the caretakers for dogs or cats, but a parrot...Will a rescue take it and deal with the money in the trust(s)? |

gbird: so glad you brought this up. We're just changing our will, updating etc., and I'm going to put in a trust for my Linnie. She'll go back home to her breeder, who lives here. Of course, I expect to outlive her, but you never know. Oddly, I hadn't thought about my Aussie dog. Hmmm..... Got to make some arrangements.

Missi-A Rescue or a Sanctuary will not take it unless there are prior arrangements. The one in your area is P.A.R.R.O.T.S. out of Ft. Myers. It is run by two women and like, most rescues are always in need of funding. Plus remember that a lot of birds that come into a rescue are injured, sick or abused. Of course, precautions are always taken but is that where you would want your bird to be for decades?
Most people shy away from doing anything or talking to their family or friends about "What if...." but you should really have that discussion regardless of what your present age is- life has a funny way of throwing you curve balls along the way and you never know what could happen.
