As the saying goes: familiarity breeds contempt.
No offense meant, but ya shouldn't dismiss the beauty of our BOP's so quickly. They might not have the vibrant color of Galah's, but seein a Red-tailed hawk or Bald eagle soaring is pretty special in it's own right.... And though one might think them drab, some of them have unique colorations themselves. The American Kestrel is small, but IMHO it has one of the most vivid combinations of plumage colors of any raptor in the world.

Well, I don't think I'd go so far as to say that I feel "contempt" for BOP. And I sure didn't mean it to sound as though I dimiss their beauty. In college, way back when in the late 80's early 90's, I was in part of a reserch team (actually I was more of a grunt!) that had to "count" Peregrine Falcons. We would go over hill and dale trying to find nests and once we found them we had to keep track and see if the couples had any babies that survived. Not many did unfortunatly. So I do have a soft spot for the BOP's. I was simply stating how nice it must be to see the colorful variety that they have in OZ. I can't imagine just looking out the window and seeing all these different types of brightly colored birds. It's just a "the grass is greener" thing I suppose.

I drive past a flock of Galahs every day on the way to work. They hang out in the field between the airport and the Gateway. I've seen a few Corellas in my neighborhood lately too!

My goodness, about $10,000.00 U.S. worth of birds sitting on a TV antenna!
What a beautiful sight and how nice to see them from their "native" habitat! Kind of like conures in Los Angeles

We never get the chance to see the yellow-tails (I assume you are talking about the black cockatoos with yellow tails and yellow scalloping on the feathers)! I would love to see some photos of those birds. They are absolutely amazing animals and one of the few 'toos I have never seen live.
