bringing your FIDS with you???

hello all!!!

so here my question. i really can;t believe i never did or tried this earlier for how long i have had birds....hmmm...but anyways.

Do any of you bring your FIDS with you to grocery store/bank/post office/homedepot/petstores? and if so...are they just clipped or do you have a flight suit for them...how do you do it? I know read that "miloMacaw" brings Milo to these types of places but i just wanted you feedback on this. also...should i ask like the managers of places before i do? just to give them a "heads-up"

If you ask they will say no. Its illegal in allot of places to take animals into any food establishment unless it is a service dog or the like. I used to take Liz into the bank with me in a flight suit with a lanyard attached. This was when i had a buisness and she went to work with me and we would walk down to the bank. most non - food buisness wont mind if you dont poo on the floor. We also took her to horse events regularly in a harness.

Given that you want to quarantine new birds in your home, and given the recent PetSmart scare, I don't think bringing your bird into a petstore that carries birds is a good idea - just because they can be a cesspool of birdie diseases. Might be another story if you're talking just about stores that don't have animals in them.

Just my $.02

true...maybe i will rethink it. it's not a chain store by the way. it is a small petstore...i know the owner.

i don't bring my birds with me very often as all of them are flighted and not too keen on the harness. also, i'm sort of paranoid when it comes to diseases - no, absolutely no, trips to the petstores for my guys... and even with other environments i'm sort of careful.
that being said, i sometimes bring valo with me to the coffeeshops in the summer in his travel cage, and also the office....

however, i do travel with the birds.... (aka, 7hr trips in the car down south to see the SO)

When we take ours out their in the their travel cages, haven't got the hang of the harness, only had it on Poppy once and he didn't like it much. But when I pull those travel cages out they get so excited! They go out on the patio in the travel cages too weather permitting.

i would never take my birds to petstores or the like; too big a chance of disease. anywhere else i would be worried about stressing out the bird, people grabbing at the bird (and possibly being bitten, lawsuit?), people trying to take the bird (or following me home to try to take the bird later). call me paranoid, but i think it's just safer for them at home!
