If you're really worried about it and are willing to go through the trouble, open an escrow account, if you can find an escrow company willing to do it for a non-real estate transaction. An escrow account is held by a neutral party who will give the money to the seller upon confirmation that you have come into possession of the goods. Most sellers should be willing to enter an escrow arrangement with a trustworthy third party.

why not make the trip over there to see them first? i mean, the bird is going to be with you for a LONG time. no point buying one that you haven't seen in their comfortable environment.

that's my 2c anyway. the only time i would ever take an unseen bird is if it was a rescue.
