yes, I'm really excited to use it for lots of things in my house, but, like I said, the company can't even tell me if there's teflon in it.
I'm wondering if folks have used theirs near their birds?

All the time - In fact my sun conure thinks it's evil and should be attacked.

I have a shark as well. From what I'm able to see, the interior of the tank is bare brass. I doubt it would have teflon anywhere else.

For what it's worth, i've used my on the bird cages, bird toys, bathroom, stove, counter, windows, balcony railing, carpet, you name it.

I'll take a detailed look at mine tonight, but teflon, which is really only used for it's nonstick qualities, would have little use in this application. brass is relatively corrosion resistant, and teflon really wouldn't be the best corrosion barrier, so I couldn't see them putting it on/in the pressure vessel.

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know.
I just thought they may have a teflon type material in case of hard water deposits or something.

Another weapon in the cleaning arsenal

Thanks to the continuing rennovations at our house (toady I have baseboards in the bathroom YAY!), the hubby and I live at Lowes. Next time we're there for more stuff (need a bathroom mirror that doesn't look as if it has escaped from 1979) I'll see if they have one of these. The big double decker cage we have the boys in has to be dismantled in order to get it outside, so cleaning it this winter takes a good chunk of time and many, MANY towels. Anything that will make this easier would be great. Thanks!

I tried so hard to look into the reservoir to see if mine was all brass as well.
Can't see into the little hole.
Shark company cannot even tell me what it's made of....
GRRR!

I just got a steam cleaner for my fids cage (as one of them does not have a removable grate - so I have to clean it off everytime with my head inside his huge cage).

While reading thru the direction for it; they highly recommend you use "Distilled" water rather than tap water in the steamer just to avoid the clogging due to lime, calcium or other hard water deposits. I would imagine that as little water that gets used or as little as the item gets used itself it shouldn't be too big a deal to just buy distilled water.

I'm going to purchase a water purification system for under our kitchen sink (as bottled water can get expensive and I don't always make it to the store to get them filled/echanged) and I can get an external attachment for not much more that distilles the water for me from the tap.

I think that's my plan. As those steamers (a good one) can be expensive to replace.

I have a PUR inline filter on my sink and I use that (mostly, for the steam cleaner and the bird water) but I did have some deposits in mine the other night. i poured vinegar in it, shook it, heated it up, and all was good (other than the fact that everything smelled like vinegar for an hour)

If you're on a municipal system or have a water softener it really shouldn't be that big of a deal. using filtered water should help. I typically add a little vinegar to keep the tank clean and boost the cleaning power as well.

yep- I'm not actually worried about the deposits...

What I am worried about is that the company cannot even tell me if there is any teflon type material near the heater or reservoir.
