Pita....African Grey?

I was out on my back deck this afternoon talking to the snowplow guy who was trying to get rid of all the ice in our driveways. I had Pita on my shoulder.

It went a little something like this:

guy: Is that an Afican Grey?

me: no (chuckle) he's a Sun Conure. African Greys are grey.

guy: Oh he looks just like one

me: well, he'd like to think he was one, but they are bigger, grey with a red tail...but he is a Parrot

guy: I guess we can agree on that, beautiful parrot.

me: thanx

we both chuckled again.

He was really cute, so I didn't think anything of it really....he was cute enough to make a mistake like that...LOL

How do you always get the hunks, Gayla? I get the ugly ones, who still mean well, so I forgive them anyway. Had someone over the other day and they were so happy to guess all my birds -- got every species wrong, but he had a good time and the fids don't much care as long as they are being admired.

well Jim, when he's out and about in Hollywood he likes to pretend he's a Grey so he doesn't get recognized.

You were describing him to us over lunch - whoo....

Well, think of this as a chance to educate someone as to which parrot is which - I certainly would not have known a B&G from a BT or a Goffins from a Bare-eyed Cockatoo before I got myself involved with a bird-guy. The more folks know about parrots, the more they might learn about the effort to save them in the wild and take care of the domestically bred ones that need a home.
