Moving Soon - Need bird advice

I have never moved with birds before. Beyond the obvious - getting cages set up quickly and putting birds in a quiet place at the new house, does anyone have any suggestions to make the move less stressful for my 3 birds? (2 teils & a macaw) The move requires a 3-4 hour drive and I am using cat carriers in the car. Thanks so much

One thing if you can leave them in their cages. The long drive will be better on them if they do have room to move around.
Second if you cover them then they will not see the things as they go flashing by.
Third if needed stop and sooth the birds.
Forth try and make the drive either late at night or early in the morning.

When my wife and I move just accross town we moved all the birds first. We setup the bird room and then brought all the birds here before moving the rest of the things. (yes it required extra trips) We put all the birds into their new room and left them there for the rest of the day so that they could settle into the new sounds and what not.

we moved almost 2 yrs ago from mi to sc. 16 hr drive. we had a meyers and a conure at the time. my friend told me this past summer, when i took cuddles w/me to get sassy in oh. the best way to transport birds is in a dog/cat crate w/out perches. because they can seriously injure themselves with the perch. the motion of the car can throw them of balance all the time. it is better for them to get their balance on the floor, that way they can find the own way to stand. she put in her carriers a plastic grill that is actually the florestant light covers. the one with 1/2 in squares. and she cuts 1/2 in pcs of pcv pipe to put as a go between the grate and the bottom of the carrier so that poop and food goes to the bottom to make clean up easier. works great.
