Thumbs down It's creepy

That some people seriously consider having ex-pets stuffed is a pretty horrible thought... It's not like I'd want a dead human family member stuffed, so why is it animals step over the line from "sick" to "decorative"?

All my pets who have died, save one cat, have been buried... The cat (who was officially more of a family pet) had her corpse burnt because she was put down due to cat leukemia, which is catching, and at the time there was no cure... I was very sad about that, so. None of my pets put down, and when they do die they're buried in their own little gravesite... Too many to mark the graves, but my mother tends the flowers that grow there...

I'll agree that it's best EBay doesn't sell live creatures because... Like someone else said; it'd be too easy. You hear about so many people doing horrible things to animals as it is, and it's harder to get them from pet shops. Not that the travel is likely to be good for them, either...

Taxidermy's pretty disturbing, but, if we were to start a petition for EBay about animal rights, I'd go with something anti-real fur products.

I'm not sure what all is allowed on ebay any many of the auctions of to be reported first before the ebay site employees notice anything...

As far as pets go, there are some people who will get their pets embalmed or mummified. There is this place in Utah, USA that does it. The only SICK SICK SICK thing about it is that they freeze the LIVE animals first, without food. The animals don't die though as it's not cold enough. When the animal is just hardly holding onto life they take it out (usually dogs and cats) and start wrapping it in cloth. Some of these pets are covered in gold or silver once everything else is done underneath...

This is only something that I saw on TV a few years ago so that is pretty much all that I know about it... unless things have changed since then.

OMG Monica that is gross!!! I assume the animal is sick and dying anyway, but that is just gross and cruel. It made me feel sick. Humans can be a sick bunch of people heh - actually only some humans.

I am not sure if I remember correctly or not, though the pets were still alive and doing well... I don't really want to look up the information if it is still out there... though I can tell you that it happened in a 'golden' pyramid, if there is one in Utah (possibly Salt Lake???) though I can't be sure since its been years since I saw the show...

Arrow Eww...

I know any place like that in England would get destroyed... Would be illegal, too... But there's a lot of variation with US animal rights laws, aren't there?

Still; I doubt that's still how they do it, if only because freezers are expensive, along with embalming fluids and such, so it would be many times cheaper to wait until the animal's passed away and have it stuffed with the normal method...

Personally, though; I think stuffed animals should be in museums or given a burial.

Saying that, my dad has a stuffed owl (he found it dead by the road and had it stuffed)... Think I'd either sell that or take it apart and bury the owl if it's ever passed on to me, though.

Like I said it was a few years ago that I saw this... and the people getting their pets mummified payed a LOT of money, I think it was over $5,000 for one...
