Question DNA cost

How much does a DNA test cost? Does it depend on the bird size?

please search BB... there've been threads about this before such as http://birdboard.com/forum/showthrea...light=dna+cost

it depends on whether you have it done at the vet or get the dna cards yourself to mail it to the lab... we paid around $50 for our birds, which is on the upper end of the scale but we rather pay that than going through the hassle

I paid $25 with my IRN. They just clipped his toe nail so it bled a bit and dabbed some blood on a card.

We went with the company Zoogen.

I went with Avian Biotech (avianbiotech.com) for my grey Schroeder.

He was still at the store when we sent it out but they got a drop of his blood on one of their blood sample cards and gave it to me.

The cost of the test itself was only $19.50 but I paid for next day mail delivery with USPS (which was $14.50 or thereabouts) to rush it there so I could get the results sooner.

I know they can also do it based on a birds feather but I'm not sure how much that would cost or how much it would cost for them to mail you a card for the blood.

The test done on my Sennie was $52.00 at my vet. They sent it to California, and I live in Indiana. It took forever (or about 6 weeks).

My breeder said it was $25 to get it done. None of mine have been DNAed though.

Avian Biotech does the testing for about 20 dollars. If you can clip a toenail you can do the test. They send you a sample kit for free. Just request it from their website. I have always gotten test results in about 10 days through email. The mailed certificate does takes about two weeks though.
