Need help with my hissy lovebird
Hello.
I have a 5-month old lovebird. He is hand tamed and likes to follow me everywhere I go. Apparently he likes me, but when I try to touch him, he hisses and lunges out at my fingers...He likes to bite my fingers. He just bites me when he is not in the mood for being touched. He is not hand shy, and love to get a head rub and eats from my hands. I don't know why he is so hissy all the time with no apparent reason. Thanks for reading. |

Maybe he's afraid of the position you put your hand in before you touch him, cause birds use body language to display many emotions... Maybe try feeding him with one hand and using the other to slowly touch him very lightly, then increase pressure until he's comfortable. It may take a few weeks/ months! I do this with my lory who doesnt like being held still while I clip her nails or check her wings- I now do this every day as practise and scratch her head while she's in this position to desensatize her to it, and make it an enjoyable, positive experience... goodluck!
