New additions

I have now purchase two cockatiels, I am told Bob is 8 months old. Rosa is a little over a year old. They have not been sexed and I have not looked at them close enough, but I hope they are male/female. I need to go back to previous posts about sexing them and refresh my memory on the subject. I will post pics as soon as I take some, probably tonight. I just thought I'd post about their arrival, very excited. :eusa_danc :eusa_danc

My daughter went nuts when she saw them.

females have barring on the underside of the wing and tail feathers and depending on the colour, the males usually have a much more yellow on the head feathers and a brighter orange cheek than the female. But some colours are hard to sex. Someone told me that if you feel the pelvic area on a female it is wider between the bones than a male. I have not sexed a bird this way, maybe I should, I do have a male cockatiel and bought a female (supposedly) for him, but he thinks he is human and is not interested in other birds.

I have a cinnamon pearl pied cockatiel. From behaviors, talking, coloring, and eggs, I can say for sure that she is a female! LOL From her head alone she looks as if she might be a male. Females usually only keep pearls, so that is another indication of female, though I've been hearing that there have been males that have been keeping their pearls (though none were 100% proof). The pied also takes away the barring on the underside of the tail feathers, and also removed the spots on the flight feathers. However, she still has TWO tail feathers that have the barring (though recently molted one out). She doesn't chirp that frequently either and she doesn't sing.

Not too long ago I received a whiteface cockatiel. No doubt a male as his face is pure white (for the most part), sings daily, and doesn't retain the barring nor the dots that most females have. Needless to say, he is not tame, while my female cockatiel is.
