Bird Man of Alcatraz?

I rented the above movie from netflix, so I'm watching it this weekend. The "bird man" (Robert Stroud also wrote a book while in prison entitled "Disease of pet bird" (I think that is what it is called--- close anyway!!)

Anyone ever watch the movie or have the book?

From early 60s..seen it a number of times..Burt Lancaster..Karl Malden I think, and a few other stars. I enjoyed it and would watch it again.

I've seen it at least 10 times. It has Burt Lancaster as Stroud. The thing that is really fascinating is that so much of avian medicine today is based on his studies of wild birds when he was incarcerated so many years ago. There has been considerable license with the book, however. Not everything is accurate in the movie. I think PBS did a story on Stroud about 5 years ago. I can't remember.

That was on this past weekend -- the PBS show! I started to watch it but was working from home; I kept getting phone calls so I had to turn the TV off. I'll have to see if WHYY is showing it again soon.

not sure which one you mean but i have watch a black n white film about bird man of alcatraz and i have been to alcatraz myself on a holiday to san fran sisco ! spooky place completely recomend going to anyone who has the opportunity
