Sound like a scam? Adopt the bird or he goes to 'birdie heaven'

I'm not in America so it's not something I can investigate myself...

Adopt CALYPSO - Macaw Bird

If it is genuine... what horrible people!

Well thanks for calling them... I am concerned but like I said, I'm not in the US.

Will you let me know if you get a call back?

I was first shown this on an msn bird group thread so thought I'd post it here where it's busier. I suggested it might be a scam, but the person did call and it's genuine. It also gets worse... two macaws are in for 'birdie heaven'

I don't know why a dog rescue is taking in parrots and threatening to kill them. Are there not places that would keep them until they find a loving home or to let him live out his days... he's 40 years old!

Maybe the dog rescue let someone use their login for a personal listing. If you look at the other listing from the shelter, they seem like a very responsible group (home inspections, and lots of personal info about each dog). The listings for the two Macaws are written in a very different language and direct you to call a different number.

I just got off the phone with the woman that is currently taking care of them. She is a temp home. I asked her if she had received any angry phone calls because of how the ad was worded- and she hadn't seen the ad. When I read it off to her, she was shocked. She said that the possibility of being Euthanized was definitely there, but wasn't aware that they had put it in different terms.

So here's the deal, she is providing them a temporary home since the previous owners are getting very old and with health issues going on, they are downsizing to a smaller residence. The owners had spoiled the birds by giving them a room of their own and then some in the previous residence. They had the room soundproofed and also made it so the walls could be hosed down, with a large "dead tree" in the center to play on. They also installed a clear view area from the upper floor so they could see down into the room. I don't know if all of what I just said was totally necessary, I just wanted to tell you what she had told me.

The older couple had belonged to a bird club and since many of the members are older and she is one of the younger ones, they seem to be looking to her to help them find homes for their loved ones either before they pass on or even afterwards. So this woman is under a good amount of stress because she would love nothing more than to house all of the birds that are coming to her but cannot keep them. She currently has 8 parrots of her own, so you can imagine the amount of room needed to keep extras that are coming in.

Please, this is not a scam... I could hear them over the phone, and they sound lovely!:)
I noticed there were lots of negative remarks, and I'm known for making things negative more so than positive, but I wanted to give more information on the ad if no one has had any contact. She said it's a possibility that they could be euthanized if no home is found before the end of March, but she said she has had lots of phone calls in regards and has also contacted bird rescues and sanctuaries, so they'll more than likely find a forever home.

So please, if you call her, take her state of mind into consideration... she is extremely emotional and eaten up about it and is trying as much as she can to find a home for them. Also, the ad was a complimentary service from the Animal Shelter- she gave them the basic information and they chose to word it differently.

Hope this is helpful to anyone that is looking to take them in.

i emailed.... very simple and polite that the wording wasn't appealing, and that there are parrot rescues out there in case they can't keep the macaws

edit: thanks dunklekatze for clarifications!
