Question Dyes in Playgyms

I'm looking for some advice on the safety of dyes in wooden playgyms....

I recently picked up a playgym for my cockatiel at Petco but when I went to wipe the gym down before letting him on it- I noticed that some dye was coming off onto the wet paper towel.

I contacted the company that makes the gym to ask what dyes they used in the wood. I was assured that the dyes are tested and safe, but can not seem to get an answer of what product is actually used.

Does anyone else have one of those colorful wooden playgyms?

Thanks all!

I have one and have been using it since November. My parakeets are fine for now, I don't know if I am doing any long term damage. I would assume that they would use safe materials, but I know that isn't always the case.

I donīt know which playgym you are talking about, but if the dye comes off so easily itīs probably bird safe. The bad thing is that itīs hard to clean the gym without losing the colour.

I have a white bird and I HATE dyed! I soak em to remove as much as I can.

Ever seen a pink, blue, yellow, orange and green cockatoo? It's not pretty! LOL

My IRN has a Petco gym with the "bleeding" color. She has eaten big chunks of it with no apparent ill effects. The tiels also have ladders that appear to have the same dye and have chewed away, as well. Think it is probably fine. Much messier when they all eat their dried raspberries with their "hands" taking care to dip them in the drinking water first!
