could they not build a cage like structure over the part that the birds are nesting at, that they could open to get to whatever part they need access to? that may be a cheaper way for them to solve the problem. just a thought.

Well, my whole neighborhood is full of Quakers, you see them just as commonly as you see crows or doves. I also live on a road that is lined with power poles and I've never seen a nest. They seem to flock in the trees. I hope this ends soon though. It's just so cruel!

I'd be more than willing to take a road trip to rescue baby Quakers, I'm in the central part of the state, so it would be just hours to get anywhere.

maybe one day when i get some land i can build an outdoor aviary and hose some of the quakers in a new permanent*sp* home. that would be nice. although it would be MUCH nicer if the birds could just live where they are feeling comfortable.

Check out the "Monk Bunkers" on www.brooklynparrots.com! They would be so easy to make if you live in an area where wild Quakers hang out. The power companies should be putting these up and covering the transformer gizmo with some kind of cage like Gary said. I would love to have land in a Quaker area so they could have a safe haven and not be disturbed in anyway. Maybe support the whole project by taking tourists on nature walks and having a little museum and show an educational film about Quakers. Florida would be perfect, Disneyland, Sea World, Quaker World......why not?

I dont get why they dont just build a bunch of poles away from power lines.. the quakers are oobviously attracted to the sturdy structers of the poles- what harm could it do to put a few in a non obtrusive area for the quakers to nest? Might help.
