Travel Cage Suggestions??

Scarlett loves to go on car rides, and we'll take her on short trips to see the in-laws (right down our cul-de-sac street), but I want to start taking her on longer trips.

I want a "travel cage" that I can buckle into the back seat of my SUV, but will let her still see out of the window. What do you guys suggest? We've been looking at the Adventure Pack. . .cage inside of the backpack. . .but I want a little bit of research and advice before I drop $150 on something, especially when it isn't designed for car travel.

Thanks!

How about one of those travel cages for dogs? you could easily fit a perch or two in one of those. Could you figure a way to belt it in?

I've always put my birds in a smaller cage and used some bungee cords to keep it secure. If the cage is big enough, I'm sure you could buckle the cage in with the seat belt.

In fact here are some videos that were passed around in another bird community I'm part of: YouTube - Libby Fidgets in the Car and YouTube - Libby Eats on the Ramp and the whole discussion that went along with it: Parrot Lovers Community - Mulling over car transport options
I've got it bookmarked because I found it informative.

There are a few dog crates with optional floor grates you can buy. I have small ones for travel with a bolt in perch and one toy and quick lock crocks for food and water. The floor grate really is nice and keeps them clean and from not chewing the paper up all over the car. I have a big one for when we get where ever. It folds, has a floor grate, a carry handle after its folded down, One little backpack carries quick lock crock, water bottle and toys and a few perches to bolt on, some paper and bottled water and food. Dog Supplies, Dog Beds, Toys & Treats - Dog.com has the ones with the floor grate.

On the dog carriers - what kind of metal are they made out of? I'd be concerned about Zinc, personally.

I bought this and it is wonderful. It belts into the car and it has a perch so your bird can grip comfortably and not slide all over on the bottom of a carrier. Can be worn as a backpack too. Its called Pack-o-Bird.

( It removes from the stroller part )

Last week I purchased a carrier "PET CARGO" from PetSmart for my B&G. I attached a rope perch on the inside. The carrier could be fastened with a seatbelt, or as someone else has mentioned.. bungie cords. It came with 2 attachable food dishes and also a compartment for treats, etc. that attaches to the top for lengthy travel.
I am really pleased with it.. and he seems to find it comfortable. He can see through 3 sides of it. And it's not TOO BIG/BULKY. Those metal crates/carriers for dogs have some nice weight to them. This carrier is light weight.

Hope this helps.
