Behavioral Specialists?

So it's been a while since I last posted. My 1-year old Sun Conure, Lola, has recently been developing behavioral problems. She has become much more nippy, attacks guests that I invite over the house when out of her cage, screams continously now when placed in her cage, and just has become really, really bad. :( I'm sure it's related to something I've done wrong in raising her since taking her home from the pet store last May... but what I'm wondering is this: are there avian behavioral specialists in the Philadelphia/South Jersey area that could help me with the problem, as opposed to the whole tape/dvd training courses?

Any help would be appreciated!

Just curious but why do you feel this way? I don't have a conure nor am I well read up on them but could any of this behavior be considered typical? I mean, being nippy, hostile toward strangers, or screaming for attention would actually be considered normal for some species. Woud it be this way for them as well?

I hired Liz Wilson about 10 years ago for help with my grey. I had an entire notebook of notes from our conversations. But I misplaced it years ago.

I'm sure Lola is going through hormonal changes and is looking at you as her mate and any visitors are interlopers vieing for your attentions.
I sincerely hope she leaves this stage soon for you as I have heard of this behaviour cementing itself into the psyche - maybe get a male handraised one for her affections?

If a male is introduced, she'll bond with him and become less tame. Just stick to the basics like when she screams ignore her, when she's been quiet for 5 mins give her a treat and a cuddle- when she bites dont make a noise just put her down and ignore it and when she isnt biting give her heaps of praise and attention. She's young so I think Krazy Karen is right that she's going through hormonal changes and maturing and defending her chosen mate- which is you! When visitors come, get them to feed your birdie her favorite food so that she associates them with yummy treats, not competition for your affections. My girl went through a stage like this: lots of positive interaction for as long as possible every single day helped ALOT! Goodluck...
