What do your birds do when out of cage

I see all the talk about how much time a bird should be out of its cage, but what exactly are your birds doing when outside the cage.

I have a LB and a Jenday Conure. The LB gets carried around with us as she wont stay on a playstand, table top thing.

My Jenday's cage is open as long as we are home, and doesnt always want to come out. She just started climbing to the top of her cage and we give her a treat for that.....that is a big step for her. When she does come out....we usually carry her around. If I am on the computer like now, she is here with me, if I watch tv, she snuggles with me then too. She has a playstand, but gets bored with it. She does not really play with toys.

I need to know that I am doing the right things with my birds when they are out.

Thanks
Colleen

that's a good question, colleen :)

ivy is normally on her bottlebrush gym playing or eating. she has a ton of toys on there. she will sit on the couch with me and watch tv or play. she likes to play on the floor a bit each day too. sometimes she will ride around the house on my arm to "help" me with things i am doing. she likes to fly around the house too.

artemis sort of just likes to hang out on top of his cage and watch out the window. he likes to sing to us too, it's so cute.

Tiki and Pele hang out on their playstands and eat and play with the hanging toys. At night, we put them out on their playstands again, and then spend time carrying them each around and handling them. Since they are still just babies, we want to make sure they get used to lots of daily handling.

Mine play on top of their cages. The only bird that does not come out of the cage is my parrotlett. he seems to hate to leave his cage and if you try to take him out he throws a fit..LOL

For the Macaw my hubby hung Macaw toys from the ceiling. We also have a boing, but the place I want to hang it, the ceiling is hallow so I'm waiting for my husband to get something for that.

My cockatoo is a rehome, was abused so she's really freighted. She does not play with anything although we do supply her with toys. She rips up her pinatas and news paper thou. She only comes out when I'm not in the room because she will fly on me and bite me hard.

The Quaker is the same as a Macaw except no toys from the ceiling. He goes into his cage when he wants to play.

Lucky will sit and sing on the door of the room that I am cleaning. He also enjoys riding around on my shoulders while I am walking throughout the house doing things.

When I'm at the computer he'll sit on my shoulder and preen himself or walk around on the computer desk playing with and shredding the various objects I have sitting on it.

Mine ride around with me, or hang out at various "bird stations" in our house. They both have Wayne's bottlebrush playstands that they absolutely LOVE, and they have various other perches, trees, jollyballs, swings throughout our house. I like to rotate them to different environments which they seem to like. Oliver also likes to burrow under coverlets and walk around the floor sometimes.

Mine play on their cages -- sometimes they check out each others cages. Bean will hang out on his playstand-eat and play with toys. When he gets tired he'll fly back to his cage. Bandit doesn't like the parrot tower. He either will stay on you or behind you on the chair or sofa. He flys back when he's had enough too. He really doesn't like to come out much,we force him.

Mine play on the cages or in the case of Buckeye - goes and distroys everybody elses stuff. He plays in and out of his and Charlies cage and I like to toss a box with treats hidden inside. New toys. Anything that mike keep him happy as he is an ADHD grey, lol. I will sometimes Take one of them into the other rooms when Im doing whatever and there are stands in the other rooms or the shower. They just like to be with you. NOW summer time is different. When we are home they go into Different cages outdoors while we are home and then they dont get out of cage until we either go in or its dark and we are on the patio with the party lights. They wont fly into the darkness and they are clipped as well.

I have a male ringneck dove named Boo - being a dove, he's usually a pretty mellow guy. My boyfriend and I let him out of the cage whenever we're home, but he sometimes likes to just hang out in there - the way humans sometimes like quiet time at home, I think. When he does come out, he explores around the apartment and goes to visit his 2 "guinea pig sisters" in their hutch - they have actually bonded and it's very sweet to see.
Boo also doesn't have much interest in toys, although he loves mirrors or any sort of reflective surface. He's also not a big snuggler - he just likes to be in the same room as my b/f or I.
