I found this Ice cream cone, is it safe?

In other threads there was a discussion of cooking birdie bread in mini ice cream cones.. These were the only ones I could get in mini. Sadly for me, finding a good selection things can be rough :(

Here is the nutritional label that I scanned so you all can read the ingredients and such...

One of the things that concerns me is that it says "Reduced Iron" and "Iron %0".

Now I believe I have read that Iron is bad for birds, so would you all consider these safe?

Someone else mentioned this and found out the website was Joy Cone: Waffle Cones, Sugar Cones and Cake Cones - Ice Cream Cones! where you can find a bunch of different cones to buy. I checked it and it seems all right, except I have not bought it. Does anyone know about the iron or any other problems?

I like them and so do my critters. I like them best with ice cream inside -- lol the birds and dogs get them plain. I'm no expert -- but I think they are fine. See what others say.

I went ahead and cooked the bread inside them. They are a lot smaller then I expected, they were tiny. Might be to much for my parrotlett, but my others should be ok. One as a treat should not be bad..

LOL! I gave one to him and he's almost got it gone already. The Macaw on the other hand did what he did best. He flew onto the Quakers cage, shut the light to the office (Yes he does that) and stole it..LOL

What bread did you cook in the cones? I would appreciate the recipe if you can put it in here. That would be great!

Those are the cones I've been using to bake birdie cones for my conures. They are not health food by any stretch of the imagination, but as a twice a week treat I am not concerned. My guys usually dig the insides out and shred the cone anyway.I use a small Hodgeson Mill oatmeal muffin mix and substitute the milk with a water/blended vegetable mixture. One small mix fills 1/2 box mini cones[filled 2/3 full].I freeze them in a zipper bags.

Tena, thank you so much for the recipe! I will start planning to get the oatmeal muffin mix and baking it. I have dried fruit, veggies, and lots of other stuff to mix in. I'll probably taste it and maybe use some myself! And some Joy cones... my cats would like the vanilla ice cream in it, too.

Dancelady

I make mine with the Jiffy corn meal, and I add an egg, some apple and some carrot and parrot food. The recipes I have use Milk, but I used fresh water instead.
